What are Yogas in Vedic astrology?

In a birth chart, yogas are named planetary combinations. They are distinct from the daily Yoga limb of the Panchang.

Named combinations in the Kundli

A yoga in Jyotish is a combination: certain planets in certain houses, signs, or relationships. Raja yogas, dhana yogas, and many others are catalogued in the classical texts. They are read from the D1 chart (and sometimes from divisional charts), not from the calendar.

Panchang Yoga is unrelated except in the shared Sanskrit word. That yoga is a daily Sun–Moon angle among the five limbs of the almanac.

Common questions

Does Inner Light list chart yogas?
The birth chart shows positions, houses, Nakshatra, and dasha. Named chart yogas are interpretive combinations built from those positions. Daily Panchang Yoga is a different calculation, listed on the Panchang page.
