What is numerology?

Numerology assigns meaning to numbers derived from a name and a birth date. Inner Light calculates Pythagorean and Chaldean profiles from those inputs.

Numbers from names and dates

Numerology is a traditional practice of reducing a name and a calendar date to numbers, then reading those numbers by a chosen system. It does not use planetary positions. The calculations on Inner Light follow the selected Pythagorean or Chaldean system.

The page returns birth-day number and Life Path from the birth date; Destiny, Soul Urge, and Personality from the name; Maturity from Life Path and Destiny; karmic lessons and hidden passion from the name’s letter values; four pinnacles and four challenges from the date; personal year, month, and day from the birth date plus a target date; and a Lo Shu grid from the digits of the birth date.

Two letter systems

Pythagorean numerology maps letters A–Z onto 1–9 and, in this calculator, keeps 11, 22, and 33 as master numbers when they appear in the reduction. Chaldean numerology, in the form used by Cheiro, maps letters onto 1–8; no letter is 9, and name numbers reduce to a single digit.

Life Path and the personal cycles always come from dates, so they are not affected by the letter chart. Destiny, Soul Urge, Personality, karmic lessons, and hidden passion are.

Common questions

Does numerology use planets?
It uses names and dates, not a sky map. Some authors, including Cheiro, also pair digits with planets and weekdays. Those correspondences are part of the number profile on Inner Light; they are not a Kundli.
